Good news Android fans, especially those who are waiting to experience the Honeycomb version of the mobile operating system by Google. According to Engadget, Motorola Xoom might arrive to all Best Buy stores nationwide after Valentines Day.
The site claims they obtained a confidential document from Best Buy, that reveals the launch date of the Motorola Xoom tablet in their stores, and it’s on February 17, 2011.
The first model of the Xoom tablet that will arrive to Best Buy is the 32 GB, which is expected to carry Verizon Wireless as its official network. The 32 GB Motorola Xoom will first use the 3G network of Verizon, instead of the new LTE, but all units are upgradable to 4G in the second quarter of this year.
If we’re going to compare Motorola Xoom’s 32 GB 3G + WiFi model with Apple iPad’s counterpart, Motorola Xoom is cheaper by $30. Engadget’s report revealed that Motorola Xoom 32 GB model will have a tag price of $699.99 (iPad’s 32GB Wi-Fi + 3G is worth $729.99 each).
Speaking of the iPad, Motorola Xoom is expected to compete with Apple inc’s forthcoming new tablet, the second generation of their tablet, or popularly called the iPad 2. Motorola Xoom and iPad 2′s upcoming competition will be tough because iPad 2 is expected to have two cameras too, and other new features that are not currently available on the first generation.
Some rumors say iPad 2 might also include USB port, and retina display. On the other hand, Motorola Xoom looks promising because it will use a new version of the Android, which is capable of running without Android’s quick key buttons like home, back and search.
In related news, Motorola’s Atrix 4G smartphone is still missing in action. The latest report about the Atrix 4G claimed that it might come to AT&T stores by March 1, which is still unconfirmed. The Motorola Atrix 4G will use Android FroYo as pre-installed operating system. The most compelling feature of the Atrix 4G is its capability of connecting to three different docks, the multimedia, laptop and car dock.
iPad 2 rival Motorola Xoom to come early, Atrix 4G still MIA
Looks like Motorola Xoom will come to Best Buy before March. Motorola Atrix 4G’s United States launch date still MIA.
