New Zealand Seals Found Clubbed to Death
Wildlife conservation officers in New Zealand said that more than 20 seals, including newborn pups, have been found clubbed to death at a popular tourist area.
The Department of Conservation mentioned on Monday that the New Zealand fur seals appear to have been killed over a number of days at the Ohau Point seal colony, near the South Island town of Kaikoura.
Conservation Minister Kate Wilkinson appealed for public help in tracking down the killers of the 15 adult seals and eight pups, some only a few days old.
Under New Zealand law, killing or harming marine mammals brings up to six months in prison or a fine of up to $191,000.
