National Museum

The National Museum of Cambodia in Phnom Penh is the country’s leading historical and archaeological museum. It was officially inaugurated by King Sisowat in 1920.

The buildings are inspired by Khmer temple architecture and house more than 14,000 items. The National Museum contains the world’s largest collection of Khmer art, including sculpture, ceramics, bronzes, and ethnographic objects dating from prehistoric times to periods before, during, and after the Khmer Empire.

The Museum also serves a religious function. Its collection of important Buddhist and Hindu sculptures includes a Post-Angkorian Buddha supported by UNESCO.

Royal Palace of Cambodia

The Royal Palace of Cambodia is a complex of buildings, even though it is generally understood to be the royal abode of the King of Cambodia. The compound was the citadel of King Ponhea Yat (1393-1463) and rebuilt to its present state in 1886, when King Norodom (1834-1904) relocated the royal capital from Oudong to Phnom Penh. The buildings with beautiful towering spires are a great example of classic Khmer architecture found in Cambodia today.

Along with numerous other interesting buildings within the 183,135 square meters (421m x 435m) compound is The Khemarin Palace, also known as Prasat Khemarin or the "Palace of the Khmer King." This is officially the residence of His Majesty, King Norodom Sihamoni.

Inside the palace grounds, the noises from the street are silenced by the high walls surrounding the compound. While tourists cannot enter the area of the royal abode, visitors can gain entry to the Throne Hall (Preah Tineang Tevea Vinichhay) where coronations and official ceremonies take place, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Preah Keo Morakot), Stupas (Chedei), a Royal Dining Hall, the Chan Chhaya Pavilion and a French-style building that was a gift from Napoleon III.

Living In Cambdia

​Insurance:

• ​Foreigners must pay for insurance by themselves such as on houses, cars and health (Annually).

• ​Employment
No any foreigner can perform any kind of business without work permit and record issued by the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training. Foreigners who intend to work must meet the following conditions:
​A.Receive before hand work permit in order to engage in any job activity in Cambodia;
​B.Enter Cambodia legally;
​C.Hold proper passport;
​D.Hold proper stay permit;
​E.Possess appropriate physical conditions for jobs and contact no serious pandemic disease;
​Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training can withdraw work permit in the following conditions:
​A.The holders fail to comply with the 5 points above;
​ B.Jobs have been postponed by holders of work permit. This withdrawal would apply up on the expiry date of work permit and can be issued or extended to foreigners;
​C.Holders of work permit are not employed over a month or work for other employers.




​Maximum percentage of foreign employment​ Referring to the requests by owners or heads of enterprises, in general, the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training allows employing foreign workers not more than 10 per cent of the total local employees.
The 10 % of foreign workers is categorized as below:



​A.Office staff: 3%
​B.Specialist: 6%
​C.Labor worker: 1%
​
 

 

In case that the need of foreign employment exceeds 10%, it shall be clarified the position, specialty of each foreigner to be hired as well as the reasons for employment.

Increasing Chinese Visitors to The Kingdom

During the world economic crisis, due to the slowing down of western tourists, the tourism industry in the Kingdom was badly affected and led to temporarily laying off employees like the case of Allison Angkor Hotel.

This year the growth of Chinese visitors bring back to good situation for tourism industry. China is the second market among the top 5 outside ASEAN that come to visit Cambodia. Chinese visitors jumped 33.5% to 99,531 during the first 5 months in 2011 compared with the same period in 2010. Most Chinese target only Siem Reap while they think that the environment in Phnom Penh is similar to some Chinese cities. According to Tourism Minister H.E Thong Khon, the Kingdom projected to see the 200,000 of Chinese investors in 2011 (See PPS’s Tourism Report in Cambodia). Good communication with Chinese tour operators is a good benefit for hotel business since Chinese people tend to go to rest at hotels with Chinese speaking people.

Mainland China is not only the largest market for agricultural products but also for tourism sector. Anyway, it is estimated that in less than 15 years’ time, China will be producing around 100 million tourists.

Looking southward on to the east coast of Spain, at night, with the Balearic sea as a dark cloak. The Island of Mallorca is visible on the top left. With Barcelona’s bright lights behind some clouds, I’m reminded about my own bucket list. One day I want to go there to see FC Barcelona face Real Madrid. Soccer might not be huge in the US but it is by far the leading sport in the rest of the world.

5. Manam Volcano, Papua New Guinea
Manam or “the Green Volcano” as I’d like to call it, is just 10 kilometers (6 miles) across. Manam is a stratovolcano, composed of alternating layers of ash, lava, and rocks from prior eruptions. Manam is one of Papua New Guinea’s most active volcanoes, and it has occasionally caused casualties, including 13 deaths from a pyroclastic flow in December 1996, and four deaths from a mudflow in March 2007. On a happier note, this image looks like a perfect movie set (Jurassic Park or King Kong comes to mind).

4 Rivers Floating Eco-Lodge

The 4 Rivers Floating Eco-Lodge is located in Tatai, Koh Kong Province, one of the most beautiful places in Cambodia. According to the western owners, it is the first of its kind in the world, as it features luxury tents on completely floating platforms (not on solid poles).

The resort was opened on 20 November 2009 with 6 tents, together with the main platform featuring the restaurant and the crew area. When entirely up and running (February 2010), the resort will feature 18 luxury tents and more than 3,000sqm of floating surface.

The owners chose to open the resort in Koh Kong Province because of its untouched environment, and also for the opportunity of being one of the first medium-sized tourism sector investments in the area. The $1.5 million investment is entirely western.

 

The 4 Rivers Floating Eco-Lodge offers remote luxury and peaceful seclusion in the midst of pristine nature, without leaving any environmental footprint. The lush forested slopes of the Cardamoms are a perfect hiding place for the rare Javan rhinoceros, Indochinese tiger and Asian elephant. Gibbons sometimes serenade at sunrise and barking deer yelp at the edge of the jungle. Siamese crocodiles, once thought extinct, have also been seen in the rivers that criss-cross this magical haven.

 

According to the Wildlife Alliance, World Wildlife Fund and other concerned charities, this remarkable rainforest eco-region is considered to harbour more than 100 mammal species including numerous endangered animals such as the clouded leopard, pileated gibbon and Malaysian sun bear. The nature and wildlife reserve near Nengkok village is also reputed to be the best of its kind in Cambodia.

Instead of applying through Cambodian Embassy, all you need to do is to complete the online application form and pay with your credit card. Kulen Mountain

Kulen Waterfall

Kulen mountain is located between Svay Leu district and Va Rin district in Siem Reap Province. It is in 48-kilometer distance from the province town of Siem Reap by a short cut or in 50 kilometer distance from the provincial town of Siem Reap via Sal Deu Gol Road, small circle, big circle, Preah Dak, Road A66 and then turning to the Malaysian Developed Road.

One Thousand Lingas

Kulen mountain was established in Angkorean perid by King Jayavarman II in the 9th century. It was named then as Mahendrapavata; a dedication to Mahendraparvata became a worshiping place for the Theravada Buddhism. It is well known as a sacred place of the Khmer people. During the constructional period of the ancient temples, sandy stones were brought from this sacred mountain. The means of transport were bamboo-rafting and elephant towing. The main attraction of this resort is the River of One Thousand Lingas and Kulen Waterfall.

1. Angel of the North, Gateshead, England
This bizarre steel sculpture by Antony Gormley presides over Tyneside in northeast England from its hilltop perch. It is huge - as tall as four double-decker buses and about as wide as a 747 aeroplane - and can be seen for miles around. The "angel" stands with its "wings" outstretched, although those peculiar, boxy things make it look more like a cyborg than an angel. It is bloody impressive, though.

It is visible approaching Gateshead by train or driving along the A1 motorway; catch the Angel Bus from Gateshead Interchange or the Eldon Square Bus Station in Newcastle.

Preah Vihear Province

The Preah Vihear temple is located slightly east of the midsection of the mountain range of Dangrek. It is also perched on the edge of a giant cliff, 625 meters above sea level, in the northern part of Preah Vihear Province, Kingdom of Cambodia. Lying out on an 800-meter north-south axis, the Preah Vihear complex has a single imposing approach, leading up through a series of five towered entrance pavilions connected by causeways and 120-meter-long steps. Stunningly sitting at the top of the Preah Vihear temple, the main sanctuary is surrounded by libraries and other structures.

Its history is mentioned as follows:
In the 9th century, Khmer King Yasovarman I (889-900) originally began work on the construction of a small sanctuary then named Sekharesvara” Lord of Summit” and dedicated to Siva.

Kratie Province

Kratie is one of Cambodia’s eastern provinces with less population, who make their lives on the riverbanks of the Mekong. Beyond the riverbanks it is a remote place with almost no population and thick-forested areas to calm down. The provincial capital is also called Kratié and lies also on the banks of the mighty Mekong River, which emboss the province from the North to the South. 

The stretch of the river around Kratié town is home to a group of rare sweet water Irrawaddy dolphins. Therefore the dolphins are the main tourist attraction of the province and the town. The river also has hundreds of Green Island, and circling water, which are also attracting some tourists.

Kratie town is sleepy but picturesque with sandbars and big islands out front and bends in the river. Unlike in many towns around Cambodia, the war years were fairly kind to the French architecture and the roads, at least in the town itself. There are some nice-looking homes of French and Khmer style scattered about, adding to the pleasant feel of the place. You’ll also find a bustling market which is a great place to watch frogs being skinned (and escaping first through the holes in the nets), sample some delicious foods (such as freshly grilled corn cakes) and generally take in rural Cambodian life.

Kampot Province

Kampot province is located in the southern coastal region; Kampot is arguably the most beautiful province of Cambodia, offering beaches, deserted islands, wooded mountains, caves, a national park, waterfalls, and a picturesque colonial town of the same name. Pepper, salt, and durians are the main agricultural products although the nascent tourist industry is beginning to flourish, filling Kampot town with upscale restaurants and hotels.

To the south end of town is a large dusty traffic circle with three hotels arrayed around it – Phnom Kieu, Phnom Kamchay, and Tuk Chhou.

Each has its own restaurants; Tuk Chhou offers a seedy nightclub. Also on the circle is Prachummith Restaurant, close by is Amar Restaurant. 

To the south near the river is the GPO and telecommunications building. At the north end of town, about 1.5 km away, is the Central Market, with foodstalls. All Kampot transportation is concentrated within range of the market-cycle, motors, taxis, trucks, and buses. The railway station lies farther north.

Tourist attractions in Kampot province come in great many varieties which are sure to leave the tourists with cherished memories.

Bokor Hill Station

Is a mountain top collection of buildings (hotel, casino, church, royal residence, etc.), constructed by French authorities in the early 1920s as a compliment to the already popular Kep resort area. In the 1990s a travel author referred to Bokor as ‘the eeriest place in the world’, and it lives up to that reputation. In its time, Bokor was an elegant getaway for French officials and foreign visitors to old Indochina. But years of neglect have left ghostly ruins - vestiges of a different age, often shrouded in fog and clouds. One thing that the years have not changed is the absolutely spectacular view of the coast and the cool (sometimes-cold) mountain air.

Sihanoukville Province

Sihanoukville is Cambodia’s most popular beach resort, catering to domestic tourists, backpackers, and retirees alike. The town was founded by former monarch Norodom Sihanouk as a coastal getaway and deep water port in the 1950’s. Most of the Kingdom’s imports and exports pass through the port which provides valuable employment to local people.

Sihanoukville, named after King Norodom Sihanouk since its independence from France in 1953. It is known locally as Kampong Saom. Located 230 kilometers southwest of the Capital Phnom Penh, the province has become one of the best seaside destinations in Asia to be explored.

Sihanoukville has a different look and feel than most Cambodian towns. Constructed as a port city in the late 1950s, the town is much newer, more urban and cosmopolitan than most Cambodian provincial cities. Nowadays, Sihanoukville is as much a beach town as it is a port town, catering to beach-going weekenders from Phnom Penh as well as a steadily increasing number of foreign visitors. Still, the pace of life in Sihanoukville is very relaxed.

The popular beaches that line the contour of the city from north to south are the Victory 

Beach, Deum Chrey Beach, Independence Beach, Sokha Beach, Serendipity Beach, Ochheuteal Beach, Samdech Hun Sen Beach, Hawai Beach, Ream Beach, and the Otres Beach.

Mondulkiri Province

Mondulkiri is an eastern province of Cambodia, which is the most sparsely populated province in the whole country although being the largest province in Cambodia. Boo Sra Waterfall:
Locates at Pich Chinda District in 43 kilometer distance from the provincial town by red soil road. Boo Sra is the most beautiful waterfall in Modulkiri and shared into three stages:

* First stage: The waterfall has 15-meter diameter and 15-meter to 20-meter height in rainy season, and 20-meter diameter and 18-meter to 25-meter height in dry season. The second stage of waterfall has 150-meter distance from the first stage.

Batambong Province

Batambong is a small town, very laid back, but the main attraction was definitely the countryside view. Battambang city is a peaceful and pleasant place these days. The main parts of the city are situated closed to the Sangker River, a tranquil, small body of water that winds its way through Battambang Province. It is a nice, picturesque setting. As with much of Cambodia, the French architecture is an attractive bonus of the city.

Barseat Temple it was built during the reign of King, Soriyak Varman I (1002-1050) and located on a hill at Ba Set village, Ta Pun commune in 15 kilometer distance from the provincial town of Batambong. Ba Set temple adapts the architecture of 11^th century and built in 1036 and 1042.  

Wat Ek Temple:
Adapts the architecture of 11^th century and built in 1027 during the reign of King, Sorayak Varman I (1002-1050). It is located at Piem Ek commune in 14 kilometer from the provincial town.

Ba Nan Temple:
Adapts the architecture of mid 11^th century and the end of 12^th century the temple was first built by King, Ut Tak Yea Tit Tya Varman II (1050-1066) and was built finally built by the king, Jarvarman VII (1181-1219). The temple is located on the top of approximate 400 meter heighten mountain at Koh Tey 2 commune, Ba Nan District in 15 kilometer distance from the provincial town by the provincial

Ratanakiri Province

Ratanakiri became a province of Kingdom of Cambodia in 1960 under King Norodom  Sihanouk's reign. Ratanakiri is situated on the north - east plateau , 636 Km from Phnom Penh. It is bordering Vietnam on the east, Laos PDR on the North, Steung Treng on the West and Mondul  Kiri on the South. 

Banlung is the capital city of Ratanakiri, affectionately known as ‘dey krahorm’ (red earth) after its rust coloured affliction, Ban Lung provides a popular base for a range of Ratanakiri romps.  Banlung was situated in the highland, along the National Road N^o 19 from Ou porng Moan to the Vietnam border about 200 km.

Ratanakiri does not have an adequate market in the city, but Ratanakiri abundantly possesses a variety of natural resources, they could then satisfactorily served as important elements to develop the national economy.
